Nihi Sumba rests on a pristine stretch of coastline on Sumba island, 400km East of Bali in Indonesia. Famed for its annual, ancestral spear-fighting competitions at Pasola, the island is rich in ancient traditions. Surfers dream of Nihi Sumba, home to one Asia’s best surf breaks and it’s also Indonesia’s top spot for sport fishing. We’ll book an overnight for you in Bali, at a luxury hotel or private villa and assist with the short flight to the island. Heaven awaits!
Unless we have a specific dated retreat, these are not strict yoga retreats. Yoga will be part of your day at Nihi Sumba, as will divine Spa treatments and cultural excursions. Come to Nihi Sumba because you adore exploring new places and have a desire to remain healthy and unwind the pace. Come to breathe fresh air, have salty hair and smile back at happy, local kids. Learn how simple life can be, while remaining in the lap of rustic luxury. This is Nihi Sumba.
Nihi Sumba guests are well travelled souls. They are people who’ve been to some of the planet's most amazing places and are still yearning for more. If you're looking for an authentic experience away from the crowds and some healthy and fun activities along the way, Nihi Sumba is just far enough away from it all to count. Helping the local community is important to us and Nihi’s Sumba Foundation allows guests to see how your booking and their commitment can help those in need.
What’s so special about Nihi Sumba Island?
Imagine the most amazing hideaway on a pristine stretch of beach. A place where time slows down, the sky is forever blue and there’s as much privacy as you wish. Enjoy morning yoga on the beach, indulge in a luxurious massage with the breeze against your neck and begin writing that book you always thought about.
If the energy takes you, surf one of the world’s best known breaks ‘God’s left’, where a lucky few are able to surf at one time or hike to cascading waterfalls and local villages. If you visit in February and March, you can witness one of Indonesia’s ancestral, mounted spear-fighting competitions at the Pasola festival. Alternatively, unwind and take a Niki Oka Spa Safari, with divine Spa treatments by the sea.
Nihi Sumba is luxury haven for wandering souls. A place where curious travellers can immerse themselves in local culture and stay in rustic-luxe villas. Reachable by local airplane, this pristine stretch of coastline lies 400km East of Bali. Although Nihi Sumba feels like a world away from modern civilization, Bali is only one hour away.
Born of a vision to protect and preserve Sumba, The Sumba Foundation empowers locals to support themselves. Every time one of our guests book a Nihi Sumba trip through us, we commit to donating to this valued foundation through our giving program Give a Little Soul. Gift yourself the healthy experience of a lifetime and feel great about helping another little soul too.
An overnight stay in Bali is strongly recommended, as most flights depart in the morning and there may be flight delays or changes. We can arrange a stay at a gorgeous, luxury resort or private villa. Also, considering the remoteness of the island, we encourage guests to have medical insurance with medical evacuation coverage.
