Anti Gravity Yoga and Meditation in Bali
11 May, 2015
Always on the search for new authentic wellness experiences for our guests, we heard that Four Seasons Sayan in Ubud, Bali had commissioned a rather special yoga bale. Designed by award winning architect and lover of all things bamboo, Elora Hardy, the yoga bale, which rests at the foot of the resort, was inspired by a lotus petal. Created from sustainable local bamboo, it offers shelter from the elements and is home to the island’s first AntiGravity Yoga.
Created by former gymnast and dancer Christopher Harrison, AntiGravity yoga was so much fun! I felt childish and carefree and a lightness that I sometimes lack in regular classes. I must admit to thinking it may be a fad prior to trying it, but by the end of the class, we were all saying we’d love one at home!
I was already a fan of the resort’s divine spa treatments using Ila therapeutic spa products and I’d formrely introduced Spa Director Luisa Anderson, to my dear friend and mentor former Buddhist Nun Fera.
Joanne with former Buddhist Nun Fera
After living in a monastery in Myanmar for many year’s, Fera wanted to re-enter secular life and pass on her knowledge of meditation and a peaceful life. The Buddhist Sangha contacted me and asked me to facilitate the process. What an honour. Four Seasons was the perfect environment and she now acts as the resort’s Wellness Mentor and guides guests towards inner peace, happiness and stress management, through her meditation sessions and Life Talk series. I was privileged to experience a loving kindness meditation, cocooned inside the yoga hammock. I drifted off in bliss.
Anahata (Heart Chakra) Spa Experience
After a peaceful lunch by the sacred river, it was time to enjoy a Chakra balancing spa treatment. The intake form was really insightful, including both physical and emotional questions such as ‘Do you dream a lot?’, ‘Are your emotions balanced?’ and ‘When do you have most energy?’. I found that I was already looking inwards and that we chose the Chakra experience centred on my heart appropriately.
The next few hours were spent feeling entirely supported and at peace. A sensational scrub using poppyseed and rose, an oil infused flower bath, an Ayurvedic basti (heart shaped putty) with warm oil flowing over my heart and a most delicate hand hold, whilst the spa therapist sang in Sanskrit like an angel. Truly the most well crafted and nurturing spa treatment I’ve ever experienced.
