1 Giant Mind held 2nd annual meditation event in Bali

Non profit organization 1 Giant Mind held their 2nd annual meditation event in Bali on the beach in front of Petitenget temple in Seminyak.

1 Giant Mind is a global research and education organization based in California. Their mission is to coordinate the largest simultaneous global experiences of “eyes closed silence” in human history and measure the collective effect through scientific research.  They are working towards uniting 100 million people to participate simultaneously in a global event and have the worlds’ leading scientific researchers’ study the effect on individuals, communities and society.1 Giant Mind also proposes to further the study of the effect of the collective human mind by conducting experiments on a scale never before attempted in human history.

Dedicated to the research and education of the effects of collective meditation, they use the term ‘eyes-closed silence’. Eyes Closed Silence (ECS) refers to any mental process including most common practices of meditation, prayer, observance of the breath, and contemplation that induces a set of integrated psycho physiological changes termed as the ‘relaxation response’.

“If you think you’re so enlightened…”

Ram Dass

One of my favorite quotes from Ram Dass is “If you think you are so enlightened, go spend a week with your parents” . There’s something about interactions with family that cut to the core and raise all kind of emotional traumas isn’t there. I remember when I decided to stop eating meat. In Asia this was no issue at all, there was no judgement. But when I returned to the North East of England you’d have thought that I had joined a cult! And I disappointed myself, gave in and ate meat the entire time I was visiting.

The World’s Biggest Experiment; One Giant Mind Meditation

We met up with 1 Giant Mind last week to put our giant minds together about a mass meditation in Bali this June. We first met Jonni and Tiana from 1 Giant Mind last September, when they organised an event on the beach infront of Petitenget Temple in Bali last year. Led by our own meditation guru Pak Merta Ada and Jonni, they encouraged everyone to sit in ‘eyes closed silence’. Love that term. Sometimes the word meditation can sound so daunting to anyone who hasn’t tried it and doesn’t realize that the ‘monkey mind’ is totally natural.

Why a silent meditation retreat is better than a face lift.

Before 1 week Meditation Retreat

After 1 week Meditation Retreat

Having just completed a silent meditation retreat in Bali, I step back into the world of chatter, traffic and super connectivity. What better way to start typing again than by sharing my personal experience with all you Soul Sanctuaries blog readers. Since I do like to talk a bit (ok a lot!) in everyday life, most of my friends focused on the hilarious thought of me being quiet for one week. Let me tell you, that’s the luxurious part.

The gift that keeps on giving

Central to our business plan for Soul Sanctuaries is a giving program called ‘Give a Little Soul a Sanctuary’. We believe that it will be the icing on the cake if somebody came to partake in one of our health programs or wellness retreats and not only helped themselves but also benefited someone in need too. A portion of each participants payment will go direct to a child in need. You’ll be able to see how children have benefited in our website widget and our Giving Reports as well as Social Media updates.

Spend a moment to recall the last time you helped someone in need, whether donating funds, time or advice. How did you feel afterwards? Pretty damn good eh. That feeling of universality and love is just like the gift that keeps on giving. Lets see what the guru’s say about this…

Meditation and the monkey mind in Bali

I had the pleasure of  recently interviewing a great guy who completed his third meditation retreat with a wonderful organization called Bali Usada meditation. Having participated in these meditation retreats myself, I was excited to hear his thoughts on the retreat.

How did you hear about Bali Usada and Tapa Brata meditation?

My partner had participated in Tapa Brata I twice.

Why did you decide to attend yourself?

I wanted to widen my perspective on life.

And what did you find?

Something very different than I expected (smile). It was not a simple, unguided meditation. I discovered a way to heal myself, both physically and emotionally.
