In sickness and in Healthy Holidays

‘Newsflash: Wellness Entrepreneur gets bronchitis.’

health and wellness

Me, luxury Sanctuary Supplier feeling yuk (unfortunately not photoshopped)

It’s time to fess up. I’ve been dragging myself to meetings with wellness gurus the last few days, posting pics to social media looking ‘all that’, when all the time I’ve been suffering from a chest infection which turned ugly and into bronchitis.

Self Healing and Spirituality in Asia

 Yoga and Self-Healing in Bali

self healing retreats

It’s all well and good to go to your yoga class, to do your 20 minute meditation and talk about spirituality..but then you must live it. And here’s the rub. Life isn’t a continual series of Shivasana (much as that sounds highly appealing to me right now!). Life is full of challenges, can be a roller coaster and god damn it if I don’t lose my cool now and again!

Yoga and meditation for children, its a beautiful world

This morning I had the honor of observing my son’s class at Montessori primary school. A beautiful collection of 3-6 year olds, doing their own ‘work’, moving freely from table to table, friend to friend and making their own choices. Then at 9.30am a smiling Indonesian yoga teacher arrived and children who wanted to participate took their mats outside to meditate. Yes you heard me right, little meditators.

One Day Without Shoes Bali Style

Yogi’s gather for One Day Without Shoes

Once upon a time a young entrepreneur named Blake MyCoskie took a life changing trip to Argentina, where he witnessed how devastating it was for youngsters to go without shoes. Not only did they suffer from debilitating diseases but many schools refused them an education unless they came to school wearing shoes. Determined to do something about this, Blake (who knew nothing of the fashion industry) set up his shoe company TOM’s and declared that for every pair of shoes purchased, TOM’s would give away a pair to a child in need. That was 6 years ago and over 1 million pairs of shoes given away later (by Sept 2010).

What’s a Yogathon? 12 hours of funding raising hilarity!

Notes post a 12-hour Yogathon at Desa Seni resort in Bali. Just how much yoga, meditation and kirtan can you fit into one day? I was almost levitating. I’m saying it again, that was simply the most fun way to raise money for Aids Awareness ever! I know I said that last year but you try toning your act down after you’ve practiced Kundalini, Hatha and downright Hilarious Yoga (care of the astonishly talented Cherie Rae, we love a gal who knows how to have everyone in happy baby and belly laughing!).

“If you think you’re so enlightened…”

Ram Dass

One of my favorite quotes from Ram Dass is “If you think you are so enlightened, go spend a week with your parents” . There’s something about interactions with family that cut to the core and raise all kind of emotional traumas isn’t there. I remember when I decided to stop eating meat. In Asia this was no issue at all, there was no judgement. But when I returned to the North East of England you’d have thought that I had joined a cult! And I disappointed myself, gave in and ate meat the entire time I was visiting.

An ode to a new Yoga Teacher

This morning I went to support my friend who recently became a Yoga Teacher. Faltering on whether she could really teach, she got the courage up to hire a hall and get a few ‘guinea pigs’ in to try out her new skills. Firstly, I want to say hands up to anyone who dares to follow their dreams. Making your passions a reality is what life’s really all about isn’t it? Setting your soul on fire! …
