Self healing; how do you go about it?

Sugarless Soul; A week sugar free round-up

Green Juice
Soul Sanctuaries offer luxury healthy holidays across Asia and we practice what we preach. That said, I was too many chocolate biscuits in and that needed to stop. I’ve made it one week sugar free and caffeine free and do you know what, I’m going to another week too. I honestly did not think that I would feel more energised immediately, but a few days in and I was waking up feeling more rested and clearer. Thank you so much to the fantastic expert tips from Paul Emery, founder of QEPR, a science based mind and body healing technique. We also had some superb advice from Dietician Eve Persak MS RDN CNSC CSSD. Here they are again inside for anyone that missed the blogs.

For anyone thinking of cutting back on sugar my personal tips would be;

Shop well in advance (I didn’t!) to stop you being tempted to cheat

If you’re a tea or coffee drinker and are going caffeine free too, think about what you are replacing it with. I always drink heaps of water and I had homemade smoothies and herbal teas

Think about your work schedule if you can. I had some aches and pains mid-week and over did it.

Bio Identical Hormone Balance

woman-with-period-pain

Swollen tummy, husband driving you crazy, trouble sleeping… how many things have you put down to your hormones? I know I have! My own personal journey into insanity led me to eventually reclaim my health and balance through bio-identical hormones. A year or so after the birth of my son, I was experiencing some pretty severe symptoms such as headaches like a tight headband, the water retention of a whale and foul moods leading up to my cycle. I just thought it was a woman’s ‘lot’ post pregnancy. It wasn’t until I took my son to our local homeopath and happened to mention to her how rotten I felt. She explained (with a massive dollop of empathy) that life didn’t have to be that way. Several simple tests later, it was confirmed that my hormones were off the richter scale. It all started to make a lot of sense!

I wasn’t convinced at first that a cream could restore order to my world but after around six weeks, I was already feeling the benefits. I didn’t realize how unwell, both physically and mentally, I had become, until I was on the road to recovery. In honor of all those women out there currently suffering from the symptoms of hormonal imbalance, we bring you an interview with Dr. Jan Toledano of The Marion Gluck Clinic, World Leading Specialists in Hormone and Sexual Health (his and hers).

Are you drinking your own poison?

depression in women

Are your expectations of others stressing you out?

I recently underwent a huge life change, returning back to my roots in the UK after 15 years in Asia. It’s been a huge transition and I’m feeling quite ‘out of body’ most the time.

I’m noticing a lot of emotional pain in the people around me (myself included). I see this coming from people’s expectations of how others ‘should’ behave. I’ve noticed this is causing the person who’s having these expectations the most pain. It’s like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die from it. How others behave is simply out of our own control.

Digital Stress – Digital Detox

digital detox

Arianna Huffington caused a bit of a stir on Facebook this week when she announced that she would be taking an ‘Email Detox’. Nothing wrong with that I thought, I’m a firm believer in disconnecting to reconnect. It wasn’t until I actually read her intention that I understood what all the fuss what about;

For the first time in my life, I have gone on an email detox, courtesy of HuffPost’s new vacation email tool. Anyone who emails me will receive a response explaining that the email will be deleted. If it is urgent they are invited to reach out to an alternative contact. If it is not, they can reach out when I’m back.” (Arianna Huffington Facebook 29th July 2015)

Never one to sit on the fence when it comes to wellness issues, I posted a comment in reply;

I think that whilst many would agree that a disconnect from technology is a beneficial thing, the ‘delete’ comes across as a disregard of others and what they wish to communicate. I’m sure a delayed response message would allow you personal freedom whilst respecting the views of those who are reaching out to you.”

Ask the Experts : Oriental Medicine

Qigong at Como Bali

I’ve been feeling the stress of running a business, being a single Mum of a six year old and going back to business school lately. I knew that my body was out of sync, but I didn’t ‘have time’ to do anything about it. Screech and rewind!

I run a luxury wellness travel company for goodness sake. How am I supposed to inspire others if I can’t keep myself balanced and healthy?  Without further ado, I booked a private consultation in with David Melladew, Oriental Medicine Consultant at one of our favourite wellness sanctuary partners, COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali.

David Melladew at Como

He began the session with a divine tea ceremony. I love people who are passionate about what they do and that shone through with David. Like myself, he has a genuine drive to help others live in health and vitality and by the end of my consultation I had a accurate diagnosis, an action plan of what to do about it which included some easy steps to do at home and he’d inspired me so much on Traditional Chinese Medicine, that I felt like going to college again!

In this Ask the Experts Health Blog I ask David about Stress and how Oriental Medicine can play a part in finding that essential life balance. Chill out and read on…

Healthy Kids Snacks = raw cacao balls

cacao balls recipe

My father loved chocolate and introduced me to dark and minty varieties at an early age. It was our special treat and something I still recall with joy now. From a young age, I got my son involved in the kitchen. I wanted to pass on my love of food and help him to have a healthy relationship with food and find the joy in cooking. We’ve made these cacao balls zillions of times and it never gets boring. Its always tasty and we both have a great sense of achievement afterwards. He always puts them proudly in his snack box.
