Balancing the Chakras Balinese style at Fivelements
25 Jan, 2012
Yesterday I took my blocked and spinning chakras up to the sacred space of Fivelements in Ubud. I was met with a warm and open hearted welcome and immediately felt at one with the elements (pardon the pun!). Set at the foot of the sacred Ayung river in Ubud, Fivelements is eco luxury at its best. Imagine bamboo structures with high tech, minimal impact lighting. I was there to experience a Chakra Balancing session with Balinese healer Pak Dewa. Fivelements base all healing treatments on the Balinese principle of Sekala-Niskala. There is an understanding that we all live equally in two worlds; the conscious or seen world Sekala and the unseen or physic world Niskala. At the beginning of our healing treatment, Pak Dewa called upon a higher divine source to help to facilitate the process.
Firstly, I was led onto the veranda of a treatment room to enjoy a foot bath. In Bali this ritual involves bathing and massaging the feet in a flower filled foot bath. This was even more magical set against the powerful sound of the river pumping downstream and the tropical bird and cicada song.
Pak Dewa began with prayers as a chakra meditation with the sounds of bija mantras for each chakra playing in the background. As I lay and fell into a sublime relaxation Pak Dewa began balancing the chakras. To help to identify blocks, he pressed against acupressure points in my feet, some of which felt quite painful. He later explained that these were connected to the sacral and crown chakra which totally resonated with me. I’m pretty intuitive to whats happening inside, so it came as no surprise when Dewa start to huff and puff around my middle, the area of Swadhisthana or Sacral Chakra. He massaged my stomach and it truly felt like he was pulling bad energy out of my body and was quite intense.
He then pressed the same areas of my feet and I was blessed to feel relief. In Kundalini and meditation, I had been experiencing a strong throbbing sensation in the third eye (Ajna Chakra) but the crown chakra (Sahasrara Chakra) felt blocked. Pak Dewa picked up on this and decided to do a treatment in which he would help my kundalini to rise from the base chakra to crown and open me up to a divine source. This was an ‘out of this world’ joint effort, as Pak Dewa encouraged me to rise my kundalini energy up through the chakras. A warm glowing energy rose up the sushumna and I felt a light and bright energy opening at the crown chakra. He guided the light upwards, asking me to bathe my entire body in the energy; a wonderful soft white energy.
Feeling supremely at peace and very centered and smiley, I departed Fivelements feeling that I was part of something cosmic. And since we’re only featuring authentic retreats in our Soul Sanctuaries offering (website online soon!) I can now honestly say that Fivelements is a true Sanctuary for the Soul !
